The 2016 John Lewis Christmas ad…
7th November 2016
The season is upon us where we all wait in anticipation for the new Christmas adverts to bombard our screens and get us truly in the christmas spirit. Every year the battle commences between such giants as John Lewis, Coca Cola and Marks and Spencer’s in the hope of winning over the nation, which has become a true staple of the Christmas calendar. This year is no different, with the early advert from John Lewis, released over the weekend and has already won over the nation. However, this ad has one tiny difference to previous John Lewis ads…
The advert is in fact a fake.
The uncanny advert involves the usual tear jerking soundtrack and cute seasonal characters that captivates us all into the true John Lewis style, however the ad was actually an A level project piece created by Nick Jablonka studying mini movies for his coursework. With over 375,000 views on youtube, the ad has already out done House of Fraser’s ad, with music by Laura Mvula. The story centres around a snowman in a snow globe remembering times with his female snowman friend. A quaint tale that mimics many of the endearing storylines we’ve seen from the retail giant, so it’s easy to see why it has been accepted as a genuine advert.
A brilliant piece of film and incredible work from someone at the start of his career, proving that no matter your age, experience or skill level, that it’s all down to the idea and enthusiasm.
